That actually didn't look too bad. A number of cities still seem pretty promising in that report.

    Hmph...look to software in Houston. Maybe I should've been a programmer icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Listings there were up 11 percent in the fourth quarter, making it the only city of the top 20 Dice tracks to yield a net gain.

NC has seemed to remain strong for sometime now!

I find most of the phoenix article to be pessimistic garbage...Throw in a few 'NO DUH!' info paragraphs, seasoned with some smart 'cautiously optimistic' companies, and you have your Phoenix article...

The NO DUH for the Silicon Valley article is "Silicon Valley Still Pays the Nation's Best IT Salaries." Silicon Valley is one of the most expensive areas of the USA in which to live, so you'll need every penny of what you earn to afford the rent, food, and the finance charges on your "Beemer."

And I'm personally offended that there's no "Orange County, CA" on that list. OC's job market and economy is certainly not the same as Los Angeles'.

And NC (Charlotte specifically) is the one place where the housing values are actually up and not in the toilet like the rest of the country
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...

For the longest time I had the impression that the Twin Cities was not a great place for IT, but I think that was before I was informed about the bigger IT picture. I used to only think about software and stuff :P How that's changed!

I was actually up there visiting family a few weeks ago. I shoulda stalked you while I was there :P

Applied when they opened up a data center here in Phoenix but that was several years ago. And I of hadn't a chance since my resume at the time screamed newbie. But I applied anyways!

Yea what they said about the St. Louis market is pretty much true. I've never had a prob. finding IT work here even when I was first starting off. Most people don't realize that there is a pretty big IT industry here with a lot of vacant spots.

I think its pretty lame they don't have Las Vegas on that list. I'm interested in what they would say about IT at the casinos.

Get on Dice.com and look at the IT job postings only in Las Vegas. It would be interesting to know if casinos hire IT people directly or go though agencies (possibly because of high turnover).

Well I know that if you talk to the casinos at a high enough level they hire directly. :D While doing Dell tech support I took a call from a guy who ran a casino and when I had his problem cleared up in 10 minutes with no stress (it was his 3rd call I believe) he was trying really hard to get me to come work for his casino.

It seems most of the casinos here in Nevada go through headhunters for their jobs. I have had a couple of calls in the last month for positions in Vegas. As I have no desire to live there, nothing became of them. I have seen a few of the entry-level IT jobs in the papers, but nothing else.
