RHCE Questions

I have been working on my RHCE for about a month now. Mostly reading the RHCE book and working with CentOS5.1 running on VMware.

Can anyone clairify
"configure the X Window System and a desktop environment "
https://www.redhat.com/certification/rhce/prep_guide/

Also how is the test?
Is there one instructor that stands over your sholder?
any details would be appreciated...

Have you seen this before: http://www.linux.com/feature/35283

I came across that while researching this myself. It's a short but seemingly good description of the exam experience.

I assume the bulk of that objective is going to focus on making manual changes to the x config file, but that's just speculation on my part.

    Wow!
That blog created a very vivid picture. No wonder there are only 30,000 RHCEs in the world.

    NICE!!!!

Well I am probably telling you stuff that you already know, but the x-config can be very, very picky.

Jack up one setting in there and say good by to your Desktop.

It has been my practice to get X up and running then backup the config file ASAP. From there you can start playing with the non backup.

And actually this is very good practice.

Sorry if you already knew that.

And not just the X config file but the config file for everything don't forget to keep a back up of! That's something I'm kind of bad about. I jump into my smb.conf or xorg.conf and start modifying things and then it breaks and then I realize I forgot to back it up so it takes me a while to get things back the way they were. It helps though when you just comment lines out instead of deleting lines or modifying lines.

Thank you guys for the tips.

Believe me for as much as this test costs i am taking no chances on failing. I am always happy to hear any tips that people want to give to me.

I am a strong believer in backing up files before i mess with them because lets face it i manage to some how f$#&^ it up. icon_lol.gif
