This paper is a compilation of vulnerability data for client operating systems for the first 3 month, January through March, of 2008.

Vulnerabilities and fixes for the following products are discussed:
Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS (V. 4)
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop
Apple Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Apple Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

For January through March of 2008, Mac OS X and Linux users experienced the highest number of vulnerabilities as well as the highest number of High severity vulnerabilities while Windows Vista users experienced the fewest and the fewest High severity vulnerabilities.

Vulnerabilities are mostly on thrid party software nowadays. Software like Adobe, Java, Flash, etc. Most of these are installed on Windows based machines, hence another reason for the bad reputation of MS operating systems, though it's not always the fault of MS.

Sure, but what's that got to do with the fact that malware targets mostly third party apps nowadays rather than OS vulnerabilities?

Unix has always had a solid kernel, but the SANS top 10 list was almost always listing stuff like bind, apache, and sendmail. Not the fault of linux/unix, and they didn't get blamed for the vulnerabilities the same way MS does when software made for Windows like Adobe has problems.

Didn't read the article, but if it claims windows is less vulnerable due to the fact that Microsoft issues patches and updates faster than the others...that is completely wrong.
