Encapsulation problem with my analog phones

I have my 3810 router with four FXS ports, and I have have two analog phones in two of them. I was going to practice with getting them to talk to each other, but when I try and input the vlan database command to create some vlans, there is no such command option at the # prompt. Nor is there an option for "interface vlan x" at (config)#. I thought this would be pretty simple, but it seems I'm missing something - I hope it's not something stupid.
Can someone assist? Thanks.

don't you have to create pots dial peers to get fxs ports up and running? What does that have to do with a vlan?My daily blog about IT and tech stuff
