maximum amount of memory for xp pro 32 bit?

on ms website..it said it supports up to 4 GB RAM. but when i put in 4 gb of ram, it only recognizes 3.2 gb. why is that? does it really utilizes 4 gb or 3.2 gb? someone please let me know. thx in advance.

Essentially, you have a 4gb limit with 32-bit OSes (you can get around this with PAE). However, other devices, such as your video card, other peripherals, etc. require memory as well. If you put 4gb of RAM in your system, the amount that will be usable will be whatever is left over from those other devices. I think MS updated Vista SP1 (maybe XP SP3 as well) to have your machine tell you that you have 4gb, even though it really isn't available. -

I need to do that. My bookmarks are so disorganized that I don't know why I even bother bookmarking anything. I probably have accumulated 600+ on my bookmark toolbar because I just throw them on there with the intention of organizing them later -
