Subnet Mask Calc

Hello everyone,
My exam is tomorrow..yeah, going to face to beast for the first time ever.
So I need to get my weapon ready and therfore I need your help.
Subnet Mask/ IP calc. I can’t seem to quite figure the calculation.
Let’s say I have a Class A 255.255.255.0 subnet. What would be my ip address + default g\w range
What if I change the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. What would be my range then?
Is that even enough information to work with?
Thanks in advance!!

Well a Class A's net mask is 255.0.0.0... The 255.255.255.0 net mask is for a class c.

so...for class C then what would be my IP range for 255.255.255.0 and for 255.255.0.0?

    For a Class C the range is *.*.*.1-254 and for a Class B *.*.0-254.0-254

Good luck with meeting the beast.

Seems your going to need a lot of it considering your subnetting woes.

I have to agree with MobilOne... You might want to reschedule for a later date if you can if you having these kinds of subnetting questions.

    Good luck though.

You have to reschedule more than one day in advance. He's not going to get a refund/reschedule at this point, so he might as well take it.

    Good luck!

    thx for your "support" guys...
you really made me feel bad for asking.
It was a pure calc question that involves math...does not mean I am going to fail the test

no reason to feel bad, no matter what the outcome of the exam, I would suggest you go through and learn subnetting until it becomes natural for you

No one was trying to make you feel bad. People just suggested that you take a little more time to iron out the details. This is a difficult exam, and asking a rather basic question like that makes it seem like you're not truly prepared for it. If you've got everything else down and are just having trouble with the math, you'll problem do fine.

In case you didn't know.....If you look on the left side of the links on this site, you will see one called 'Subnet Calculator'. Download that. It's a very nice program and it should help you understand the IP ranges better. Don't rely soley on this calculator to learn, but use it as a helping tool.

Yep, I had 1 sim too icon_wink.gif But I can't tell you the details because of NDA. I'm planning on taking 293...but not for a while. Probably a month or so. Good Luck next week!
