A friend of mine sent me the above diagram, describing how CCNA works now. He says that you have to have your CCENT first and then you go for your desired route to earn CCNA in that particular route (R&S, security or voice). I was planning on taking the one exam option for my CCNA, meaning go through ICND1 and ICND2 and then take the CCNA exam at once. But, according to him, me as a first timer, do not have the option to take the one exam route and have to take 2 exams. Could you guy please confirm if that is true?

I am preparing for CCNA right now, it sort of makes it easy for me to take 2 separate exams but I will have to bring some changes in my schedule. Just need to confirm it with you guys before I make any changes.

    I'm pretty sure that the full CCNA is a prerequisite to any of the addon certs.

    Yes it is. And the new CCNAs will be a pre-req for the Pro series next year.

    At this time, taking ICND1 and ICND2 gives the same level of certification and opportunities as taking the single CCNA test. What this means is that you have the choice of going CCENT, then taking ICND2 to become a CCNA, or you can take the single CCNA test and skip CCENT.

    It was designed with both paths in mind, so I doubt that will change any time soon.

    so my friend's claim that "as the first time cisco test taker I don't have the option to take the single exam and have to take the 2 exam route" is not correct, right?

    1 exam route or 2 exam route are both available for the CCNA, it's however you want to do it

    THANK YOU. That is exactly what I was looking for. I though it was so, but was told that its not available for first timers. Thanks for clarifying. Time to go correct my friend on this.

    This is the URL to the Certification listings and prerequisites. The CCNA voice and security are in the top part of the list and the wireless field specialist is at the very bottom of the list.

    I hear that there is going to be an increase in prices for some exams too.
