DOS Question

I have a question. I am studying for the OS part of the exam, and I'm seeing in my book that for example, the DEFRAG utitlity is available in DOS. Now, when you run it from DOS, does that mean that it's essentially doing the same thing as when you from in Windows? What is the difference from running it in the commnand prompt in DOS from running it in Windows? Is there one?

They both perform the same task. Unless you enable smartdrv under dos, the Windows defrag will be a bit faster because of better use of memory. Apart from that, and the fact that one is graphical, there is no difference in the results.
