BCMSN study guide first chapters

aueddonlineaueddonline Member Posts: 611 ■■□□□□□□□□
hey guys, got the study guide through yesterday and started reading, is it just me or is there a lot of 'sales talk' in the first chapters, kinda felt that Cisco where trying to sell me a 6500 switch. I was looking forward to getting into the exam objectives. Looking at the blueprint the exam objectives don't start till chapter 4 with VLANs?

Should I spend a lot of time on this stuff or is it just cisco's way of trying to get me excited?

    Been mentioned before... :)

But you have to remember the BCMCN and BSCI are pre-requsites for the CCDP. First few chapters is very sales orientated and talks alot about SONA & IIN (BSCI only has a few pages on it, but I know BCMSN has quite a bit)

Pay attention to the topics as it will come in handy to have this brief prior knowledge if you do decide on going down the CCDA/CCDP design path later on :)

    Cheers

That makes sense, I have read though it all but I will probably go though it all when I've covered all the topics and see if it makes sense then, pissed me off reading pages and pages of long fancy words that sound good but don't tell you much,

On to the really stuff tomorrow, sorry for repeating posts, I hadn't seen it mentioned

I generally skip that stuff as I don't have the goal of CCDP.

Along these same lines... Are there model specific questions on the test? The book has all sorts of tables discussing which options a 4500 or 6500 switch has. Will they be expecting me to know which switch has which features?

This line of thinking differs greatly from BSCI, where we simply needed to know the technologies and how to implement it.

There is nothing on the BCMSN Blueprint about model numbers. The exam is along the same lines as the BSCI where you will need to know the overall technologies rather than specific model features.
