Just Passed!

I just passed the Network+ exam today with a score of 793. I was hoping to scored in the 800s but some of the questions were not covered in my book.

Does anyone know what the protocol is to resolve IP addresses to AppleTalk names?

i, too, was hoping to score higher, but i guess i was expecting questions in more of a similar vein to my a+ exams. it was fun though.

My score on practice exams were 100% but you can count on CompTIA to ask questions that were not covered in the book. Man I was thinking it was AARP too but I never heard seen that acronym before so I chose ARAP which was the only choice that rung a bell in my head. All the questions I got wrong were ones based on Novell, UNIX, Mac, NAS.

There were quite a bit of look at this diagram and determine why computer A cannot communicate with computer B type questions. I must have had like 10-15 of these. Make sure you really understand how computers communicate.

Oh, I used the practice questions that came with the All-In-One Exam Guide, Cert21.com and TechExams.net.

100% but that's because those practice exams only really cover PC networking. Novell, UNIX & Macintosh will give some a little trouble since the typical user is not exposed to them as often.

i picked up details of some macinstosh protocols from networking complete by sybex, but this is the only thing i found about aarp specifically for network+ ( http://www.networkcerts.com/Network+/3network.htm )

the questions are similar to the short questions in the exam. the real exam will also contain scenario questions and interactive features like drag and drop.

yes, it does look good. i must remember to bookmark it for when i get around to my 210/215 study.

and never forget the technotes on this site either. sure, they may be like a work-in-progress for a study guide, but they seem to cover all the necessary details. hats-off to the webmaster!

the funny thing is, that since my initial responce to this thread, i have had to connect a macintosh to my lab.

i do type some news and adverts for a local newspaper group at the weekends. it's normally three or four hours work, but i manage to stretch it across most of the weekend.

last night, the floppy drive went belly-up. i had been using some floppies that had been lying around the lab and they were obviously defective enough to wreck the floppy drive in the mac (a mac can read a floppy formatted in dos or windows but not vise versa).

i would find graphics on the internet via my home pc and also typeset the news in microsoft word as it has better spellchecking capabilities than quarkxpress, so i need some way to get the data from my home pc (in the study) to the mac in the lab (a brick-built shed in the yard).

i could use compact discs, but that would eventually prove expensive. an internal floppy drive for a mac probably costs around the £40 mark, and would eventually prove cheaper than using compact discs.

to cut a long story short, i had to convert the file system of the pc in my lab running win2k advanced server eval to ntfs and install file sharing for macintosh. i had to set up a user on the pc for the mac, and am currently in the process of downloading the latest appleshare client for the mac (it has to be version 3.8 and i presently have 3.6 or something).

in the tcp/ip properties of the mac, i have the option to specify an ip address, use bootp, dhcp or rarp. there is no mention of aarp. which makes me wonder, how does aarp figure in this? there is no such thing as a command prompt in macos that i can see (i am running macos 8.6). perhaps it is available from the non-mac end, or only available on mac servers.

but you do not need to configure aarp because that is your mac address anyways
there is no option in the gui windows also

pretty close in difficulty or no
and is it well worded or do they have some trick questions
