Congrats Paul!! I knew you would be back to some exciting work in no time.

So I guess you will be leaving the Cisco community for a while. Its ok though, we will still be here in the Cisco forums when you are ready to come back home. icon_lol.gif

Never. I study for the CCIE every day. That is my ultimate goal.

Security stuff is just not any fun for me. I'm not **** enough to be that picky. I like making things work, not telling people that they suck.

My new job isn't telling people they suck. It's politely letting them know that they have a vulnerable network then going the extra mile to ensure that their issues get fixed. My job also isn't to make people look bad in front of their bosses. I think your conceptions of the security industry are a little off.

Also, you should be **** in every line of work you undertake. Being **** means being thorough. Most of the time "just making it work" isn't enough.

I understand if others want to be in the field but it just not something I would enjoy. I've seen security departments in a few jobs and quite a few of the roles just aren't my cup of tea.

I'm not trying to devalue the field at all. And I don't want to post a long post on how I feel about the field. So I posted a short narrowsighted view of kinda how I feel about it. :)

You and me both. Security isn't my cup of tea.

I wish this site had a "friend's list" just so I could remove Paul from mine. Was that jealous enough? icon_lol.gif

Congrats on the new job, Paul, sounds like you've got not only excitement ahead of you, but a lot of challenges as well. Best of luck, you'll have to report back on how things are going.

Clearly I don't have specific experience in the security field but I can say that I agree that it's not for everyone.

I've gotten about 250 pages (1/4) of the Shon Harris book read over the last few days. I really enjoyed the material on risk management.
