Microsoft to announce new mouse technology

My guess is Wii technology were you hold something in the air and as you move your hand around the mouse also moves with it, thats the best guess i can think off

I'm going to setup something crazy like that. Then when someone asks me where the gerbil (or whatever) is, I'll just shrug and nonchalantly say, "I don't know now. I haven't seen it in weeks."

Hopefully the actual product is some sort of neural implant. I'm tired of having to move my mouse around.

I'd agree on it likely being motion controlled. The funny thing is MSoft released a gamepad for the PC about 8 years ago that had motion control and it was great but never got any real notice, I guess it took Nintendo to actually make it popular so they've come back around to it again.

That'd be a terrible interface IMO. It works for the Wii but you're playing a game there. Holding your hand out to move your cursor around when browsing or doing general work would be extremely tiring after a very short period of time.

It is similar to how a touchscreen is good for certain uses like kiosks but pretty annoying for general purpose use. Your arm will get tired quickly.

My guess is what others have found and that is the blue LED tracking system.

I'm waiting for the technology that's going to replace the mouse. Some of the new multi-touch concepts look pretty amazing.

After playing with an iPhone for awhile I can't help but think that multi-touch is the future - probably still need a real keyboard for a long time to come, but I'd love something that does more than a mouse based on the fingers that I use.

Haha. I didn't even know that thing was called "surface" until I saw this post. I googled it, because I've seen a lot of junk about it. I heard something about them being used in vegas, to scan credit/debit cards. You set it on the table, it scans, and you sign..on the table. Pretty cool.

The credit card stuff must be a concept idea and not actually real. How are you going to read the chip on those things through glass...

It was some demonstration on some show. I don't remember too much about it, but that a lot of restaurant owners were interested. I think it'd be pretty cool. Definitely would have to work out some issues before implementing, though.
