Because if you use Firefox and run into a page or something that doesn't render right on it then you would need to open up IE, copy and paste the URL and hope it sends you back where you were at. Sometimes doesn't work that way so you would need to go to the main page, which can be a hassle depending on how many links you're in. With IE tab you just click on the little Firefox icon on the bottom and it refreshes in Firefox using IE's rendering engine. As for "just use IE argument" its pretty much been answered with the replies about add-ons.
