I also tried another keyboard, which did not work. This occurs in 2 different partitions of XP. When i go to device manager, under the keyboards thing the HID Keyboard (that may not be exactly the name that shows up) appears three times, each with an exclamation point by it. I've tried uninstalling it from there, deleting the drivers, etc. Tried it on a few different USB ports as well, no workey. Not sure what to do here besides a clean install. Any suggestions?

If you can get the machine into safe mode what happens? Can you use the keyboard then? If so, try running an sfc /scannow from a command prompt. Some dll or ocx could be out of whack. If you want to try something else, boot from a bootable cd (Ubuntu or something) and try using the keyboard there.

OK everyone I sorted the issue. I did a repair install of Windows and it sorted it all out. Seems that it was just a driver conflict within Windows because when I finally got in and could use the keyboard and mouse I found that they had logitech software running as well as some Microsoft keyboard software which is what probably caused the issues in the first place.
