70-282 looks to be what you're looking for.

That's one of, if not the only, exam that counts towards the MCSE and not the MCSA icon_eek.gif

Yup thats the one (recently revised too) and don't forget it's not just about SBS, make sure you read the objectives as it covers medium sized environments as well.

Oh and as dynamik said, it's the only exam that doesn't count for MCSA but does for MCSE - go figure.

Edit: I'm gonna go email Jim and find out why they decided it wouldn't work for MCSA. I'll let you know what he says. :)

I would imagine it's because most SBS environments don't need full time admins.
    Good luck to all!

I currently work in a SBS environment.

    I'm doing AutoCAD right now.

I transitioned our company out of a SBS a year ago, but we are still a small company. Apparently I also am a Mechanical Engineer as I do AutoSketch drawings for the sales team because it takes the engineering department 4-6 weeks to complete a drawing (not joking!)....I do a concept drawing in like 30 mins.....I feel your pain bro.
    WIP: CCENT/CCNA (.....probably)

Has anyone done 70-282? Is it hard? It seems to cover Exchange, Server, AD - the whole shotting match. Bit much for one go!! My head my rupture...

I just took the exam recently to make my company Small Business Specialist. It was the easiest Microsoft exam that I've taken so far.

Thats why i am taking it to get the Small Business thing. Looking over the notes and tests it seems to be quite high level ¨user wizard¨ type stuff. Various bits on NT4 & 2000 upgrades etc.

    How many questions was it?

SBS is all about wizards, have to watch out that you don't get too comfortable with it
  • lozstlouislozstlouis Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□
yes you are right. i learnt my craft on NT3.51 and Exchange 4 etc then worked up the versions. Then when i first used SBS2003 I tried to do things the hard way until someone said i should use the qizards - wow what a difference. in fact i learnt another way of doing somethings by looking at what the wizards end up doing. But you're right - need to keep an eye on the other ball as well.

I suppose this exam is like the hosting exam (501) - it has every topic in there, but mostly just the basics as indeed you don't have to manually configure each single piece of software but use mainly the wizard ...

I can only quote a friend of mine who has taken the exam (and I just asked via MSN)

He says (I only took out the bits which were a bit too detailed - sorry icon_cool.gif )

    - Make sure you know the hardware requirement when using the full install or just parts of it.
    - Know the difference between the editions (Premium, Standard)
    - Upgrade path (if any) - also old OS' are mentioned
    - Know the basics of each component - it doesn't hurt to know what the requirements would be if you install it as single product (such as Exchange)
    - Read up on ISA 2000
    - Backup / Restore strategies

One issue he had : time .. apparently the questions are very long with long possible answers ....
My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com :p

ok thanks. good advice. i guess questions are worded so that you should read them two/three times type of thing.

Haven't booked mine yet. But i have registered for my 2nd shot voucher!
