when we use RIPv1 or RIPv2 protocol, we normally set no out put update to fastEthernet LAN by using passive-interface f 0/0 (or) something like this. What I want to knw is, why we don't need to send update info to that interface. Why are the not required?
Please someone explain me about this. I read some articles already but still don't get it.
Thanks so much.

Also it only prevents it from sending not receiving. It works differently for EIGRP as it establishes neighbors and they will not form because no hellos are being sent.
