If you format it with NTFS, that functionality is built in. Otherwise, you could use something like TrueCrypt.

Yh the attrib sets the file attributes. So if you edit this you should be able to change permissions or add passwords

you can right click the folder and hit properties and then click the checkbox to encrypt it (only if on ntfs drive)

anybody else who logs onto the computer won't be able to see whats in there, if you are sharing an account then this wont work

if you're sharing the file, you can always make the folder hidden...sharedfoldername$

Someone could take ownership though and reset the ACL.

You need to encrypt the data. TrueCrypt = probably the way to go.

He could just use EFS if it was formatted with NTFS.

I really love TrueCrypt though. I keep an encrypted flash drive on my key chain and can easily use it anywhere that has TrueCrypt installed. I should probably just put TrueCrypt on the device itself and switch to using a container instead of the encrypting the entire device...

We've started rolling it out as a part of our new workstation images. It's freeware, along with TrueCrypt, but this is a little more user friendly. It does not do disk encryption. It is file/folder encryption only.
