Trash picking - that's how I filled my lab with test workstations. Having to go into the shop at 3AM to fix a server issue has some perks - the neighbors don't see you taking the computer they set out for the trash truck. Although the last time, I really should have left the AS400 on the curb - my back is killing me.

My wife gives me heck about my lab all the time, so I feel for you. But she only worries about the stuff I buy, not what I get for free.

Recent upgrade to my home lab - I now have two 3550's. I was going to brag about the good deal I got, but it's hard to top FREE stuff.

I guess you have to live in the UK to find that kind of gear in the company dumpster. Where I work, we ship the gear out to our warehouse where it sits just in case we ever need it. I think we'll be throwing away our old Cisco fasthubs in 2010.

i} If you are a clever, forward thinking lad, you will befreind the deliveries in/out guy. They are the ones who send the arsenic infected nasty electronic card infested boxes to the special disposal place [ who are normally draped in gold with all the free kit they get sent for "disposal" !

Sorry about the hooligan comment. I have no idea what that means to y'all overseas. To me, it just means sports fan. But I am very jealous that I can't find good free gear here in the USA.
