I want to go above and beyond what the CCNP books tell me (and also to get an insight into the CCIE)

I think I managed to buy a 2nd edition of a CCIE book, but think this was a generic CCIE R&S book.

Looking at Amazon, they're offering

Routing TCP/IP Vol 1 and Vol 2, for £85

Worth it?

After scouting around on Amazon, I've ordered both.

Both are well worth it. I haven't touched Vol II nearly as much as Vol I, but always find myself referring back to it when I get stuck.

Check out the CCIE R&S booklist if you have that in mind. There's a few classics in the list which are on the shelves of every CCIE before the times of all the materials we have now adays online and in print. From my own experience towards CCNP/CCIE I can suggest:

IPv6 for IOS <-- non Cisco Press

IOS Architecture

Routing TCP/IP vol1

Troubleshooting IP protocols

Well worth it. These books are invaluable. Once you start labbing you'll probably be in them more than the CCNP books.
