Awesome man. Was the Developing IP Multicast Networks by Beau Williamson very helpful? I've been searching for quality multicast publications.

Excellent book. I would consider it a 'must read' for the CCIE.

I got my CCNA in 2006 while doing desktop work. I started my CCNP in mid 2007 while working as a systems administrator. Currently, I am in my first 'real' networking job (enterprise environment) and have been here 13 months. I used certifications to get my foot in the door and never looked back.

About 2 years from CCNA to CCIE.

I spent 11 months from start to finish. I included plenty of technology specific labs during my study for the Written portion.

I am definately taking the rest of the year off, what's left of it, and moving onto the CCIE SP track in Feb of 09.

Just note that I am married with no kids yet and 24 years old. I have no major commitements other than my wife and work so I have some time to dedicate to studying. The real credit goes to those folks juggling a marriage, full-time gig, and kids while studying for any IE track! I almost went bonkers while preparing for the exam so I have no idea how they do it.

The CCIE is only impossible if you let it be.

Thanks everyone for the all of the congrats!

yep, i have to agree too. i like the slowly but surely approach shown on this forum.

think i'll just coast at work for the next couple of years and study till i get my number. after all things are going to be slow for a couple of years and working at my usual break neck speed brought me nothing.

Some free time at work really helps with lab prep. But even if things are slow at work getting through the CCIE in one year still takes a lot of effort. In my case it's more like two years as I have been really busy at work and at home. But it still means a lot of work I can assure you of that. Both methods have pros and cons. Either way you have to turn your desire into determination along the journey! Good luck if you decide to go for it.

guy at work was given one day a week off work to study. he studied every evening and all weekend every weekend as well. still took him a year to do the written and lab.

one step at a time for me i guess. hopefully np in one year though. i guess more realistically then ccie will take me at least four years without distractions.
