Just felt the ripple of the economy today

So I work for a company that designs and hosts websites. We where doing quite well and hadn't seen a huge hit in our company since the fall of the economy. Well today I get called into a managers meeting with the rest of the managers in the company and the CEO tells us that we are all going to take a 15% decrease in pay across the entire company. Granted I still have my job which is awesome but now I am worried about paying my bills. How has the economy effected you as of late?

I have my yearly review in Jan, I'm guessing I shouldn't expect much of a pay raise.
On my way to MCSE 2K3: Security
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
I work for a small company and luckily no lay offs or pay cuts Yet. Our owner said no new equipment (computers, printer, ect...) until further notice. We definitely won't be hiring anytime soon either. In the past our owner has treated us employees well with hefty Christmas bonuses, but this year I don't think anyone at our company is expecting one. I'm just thankful for what I have right now.

What happened? Didn't you just get a government job a couple months ago? Sorry to hear that though.
I work in a hosting environment, it's pretty quiet at the moment though I have noticed a lot of the smaller companies outsourcing their systems which seems to tie in with them laying off internal staff. Rubbiiishhhhhhh.
Once again, good luck folks and to the OP - at least you managed to keep a job for the time being - pay cuts hurt but the easier option would have been to lay off people.
Keep your chins up people

I was hoping this job would be temporary maybe a year or two at most. I thought it'd look good on my CV/Resume as a first job in the US. I shouldn't complain my employer has allowed me to move closer to my skills and towards IT and give me a raise as well. I think in part to keep me where I'm at.. not that I'm going anywhere the way things are now!
I'm am giving some thought to working on the side or setting up a small company to work after hours and during the weekends doing the usual tech type stuff onsite and in home. Be nice to get back on the horse and make a bit of extra cash here and there. I was last a tech back home in 2005!
Fair is fair, but business isn't fair. It is all about profits.
Pre-economy crisis I was looking to relocate and get a better paying job, but I was just given a 10% raise and will be getting a promotion as soon as I finish my MCSE (70-298 left) and my VCP (took course, test in Jan.).
I think I might stick this job out for now, or at least until the economy starts to get a little better.
I have three jobs right now. Money is not everything, but without it. It can be a big problem and specially you have family, house loan, student loan, car payment and alll other misc....
Good Luck
- No bonus this year
- All training cancelled next year (Bye Bye MCITP:SA and possible MCITP:EA courses, back to self study again)
- Planned server upgrades put off indefinitely.
- Minimal or no pay rise in April
- A promise to TRY and not cut any jobs.
Not the end of the world, but I am the newest member of the IT dept (just over a year) so I would be the first to go.

Even still, small bonus and small raise is a possibility. Better than the alternative I guess.

Still a good move to get a few more certs on my resume
Not so fast young Skywalker. I've seem companies in similar situations that look to trim the high fat first. A high salaried Architect should feel no safer than the wet behind the ears noob. Some companies just look at the financial bottom line, which means cutting the lowest salaries brings about the least relief.
