Think you have to take 640-802.

From the CCNA Recertification section of the Cisco CCNA Certification page
CCNA course certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass the ICND2 exam, or pass the current CCNA exam, or pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice), or pass any 642 - XXX professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam.

Hey isn't there suppose to be a rule that if you take another professional exam it extends your CCNA as well as provides you for the next certification??

    i.e. take a CCNP test?

that only applies if your ccna is current, if its already expired you have to recertify it first
if I say something that can be taken one of two ways and one of them offends, I usually mean the other one :-)

just remember you will have to do the new ICND2 exam, which differs from the old CCNA objectives. Check out the new objectives here: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/current_exams/640-816.html

Good luck, hopefully you can catch it in time! :D

the prerequiste for the specialized exam is the CCNA

You can take any exam, in any order - no prerequisites there.

What triggers [re]certification is another topic.

Looks like he has a current CCNA, which expires in March, so the specialization exams would work.

imo either will look good on your resume, for money id say voice is the hot one,

as to which is easier, thats your call, for me id say security but thats cos i know more about that area, however I'm currently working towards the voip route as thats the area that interests me most

That is what I was saying. Wouldn't the Specializations renew your CCNA?

Security if I had the option since that is in more demad. It is more generalized than Voice of course. Also could lead to a CISSP after five years if you haven't already have the requisite experiance.

The lab requirements for the CCNA Security are less than the CCNA Voice -- so it's probably easier for people to study and pass the CCNA Security.

The only issue for many IT Staff is after three years, their job might change and not required the or haven't touch the swithes for a long time. Renew can be a big issues for me and my staff.

So what's the rule if your CCNA has expired? Do you have to take the whole thing again, or can you just take ICND2 to renew it?

ICND2 renews a valid CCNA, but you'll have to take the full blown CCNA or both ICNDs if it has expired.
