Want CCVP, but CCNA is EXPIRED

Hi,

I'm preparing myself to start the CCVP certification process. I read in CCVP - Career Certifications & Paths - Cisco Systems that:

"

CCVP Prerequisites

CCNA Voice
OR
CCNA (until June 24, 2009)

"

So, it meas that after June 24, in order to take one of the CCVP cert exams you should have the CCNA Voice, not the CCNA, rigth? (1th question)

But in the CCNA page, it says,

"CCNA Recertification

CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam."

So, here is the question, CCNA has to be VALID - NOT EXPIRED and passing any 642 professional level will RENEW the CCNA for three more years, OR i can have it EXPIRED and at the same time being able to take any 642 exam ? Here im confused.

Please help me in my process, im an IT professional, with a CCNA of 4 months expired, and wanting to start in the Voice World of Cisco.

First, you'll need to renew your CCNA. If you can finish the entire track before June, 24, you will not need the CCNA: Voice. However, you will need it if you plan on finishing it after that date. It has nothing to do with the renewal process or expiration. That's just a CCVP requirement.

No matter what you will need a valid CCNA, and after June 24th you will need both as the CCNA is a pre-req for the CCNA Voice.

Looks like you are gonna have to snag your CCENT >> CCNA >> CCNA Voice >> CCVP, unless you think you can pass CCNA >> CCVP before June.

Trust me the new CCNA is A LOT harder than they were even a couple of years ago, and down right shame the ones from before 2005.

i have the same doubt ... i have CCNA certification in Internetwirking Devices..... But now i wanna do the CCVP..... Is there any possibilities?... Pls tell me

The CCNA:Voice can now be earned via the
640-460 Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC) exam
or
642-436 Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE) exam.

The difference is that the IIUC exam focuses on the UC520 device for small business or branch offices. The CVOICE is normally where you start the CCVP Certification and is focused on the enterprise solutions (with the small office and branch offices support included -- but using "big boy" hardware).

To earn the CCNA:Voice by either option, you still need a valid CCNA
CCNA Voice Certification

Even if you plan (or hope) to work in the Enterprise Voice market, it still is probably best to take the time and spend the money to do the CCNA:Voice via the IIUC exam. You'll still need to do the CVOICE exam, but being a Cisco Professional Level exam, the level of material you need to learn is a bigger jump from the CCNA than the CCNA --> IIUC. The IIUC is a good "stepping stone" on your way to the CCVP.
