Cisco 6500 - Neb?

Just had some Cisco 6509s delivered. They are of the "Neb" variety ie: vertical cards.

Anybody know why Cisco designed this chassis like this? Very tricky to cable to I'd imagine (and shortly to find out, probably).

Here's a good trick that helps a lot.

Flood cable your ports on each card to patch panels in seperate cabs. Then when you need a circuit to connect to the 6500 you patch to the relevent flood cabling port instead. This avoids stress on those cards (which arn't cheap) from constant plugging/unplugging whilst also negating the need to fiddle around in the little card space.

We do this and it makes things a lot easier.

Yes, the NEB chassis is all about the airflow, its a standard to have the flow front to back rather than on the side.Also the Neb chassis has a nice cable management system which means the fans can be replaced alot easier than the old chassis.

Thanks for the replies. Thought it might have something to do with airflow (front to back rather than side to back). We've had a play around with the cable management too.
