isis needing unnumbered interface...

tried to do this:

router isis
net 49.0001.1111.1111.1111.00
int fa 0/0
ip router isis

then got error:

Cannot enable ISIS-IP. Configure IP address or make the interface unnumbered

Not finding much on this error on the web....

if anyone has a suggestion please speak up!!!

Are you wanting to use unnumbered interfaces? Or are you just trying use ISIS? If you just want to use ISIS, give the interface an IP address.

when I try to use the loop back I get this error:

R1(config-if)#ip unnumbered Loopback 0

Point-to-point (non-multi-access) interfaces only

This works... but defies the examples in the cisco lab BSCI portfolio guide....

What are you trying to accomplish here? To get ISIS running you just need an IP address on the interface. Not sure why you are moving toward an un-numbered interface unless you have a specific interest in using un-numbered, which is fine, but that doesn't look to be the case from your first post.

In my copy of the lab portfolio it says "Build and configure the network according to the diagram" (or something to that effect) at the beginning of the ISIS labs. Perhaps you overlooked it, or maybe we have different versions.

Looks like something flaky with dynamips....

blew the routers away and rebuilt the config and now I am off to the races!
