Console Port Connection?

ElvisGElvisG Member Posts: 167
Well, I got my home lab setup. I bought everything through Ciscokits. I know have a problem in which I didn't think of. I don't have a serial port on any of my computers. How can I connect to the console port to setup the router? Is there another way to setup the routers? I really don't want to buy a USB -> Serial adapter. I just want to start working on my setup.

There is no other way that I'm aware of. I had to buy the USB to Serial Adapter.

I don't know of any other way, unless you know the telnet passwords to the equipment. Here is the USB Serial adapter that I use: Newegg.com - VANTEC CB-USB20SR USB to Serial Adapter - Adapters & Gender Changers

Yeah Elvis I am with the rest of the group. The laptops that I am issued at work and my personal laptops do not have DB9 connections. The USB to Serial dongle is the way to go.

Thanks MeadIT! I just called around and I only found 1 in my area and they wanted $40 for it.

They are a pain to get working, especially if you have bluetooth on the PC/laptop. I would recommend you go with one particular make/model already recommended by others.

If you can get your pc/laptop to see the USB when you connect it, your halfway there. The rest is just jiggery pokery with the settings and com port allocation in device manager.
    Kam.
