Interview at Hospital

Hi Guys,

Just need some information and help here... i have got an interview with a hospital in the radiology department for a systems adminstrator role, the main area of support is focused on PACS & CRIS systems... i have no previous experience with regards to PACS & CRIS software but i have digged up enough information on these applications on how they work, my main concern is and i want to know how are these mri and x-ray scanners and other medical systems connected to the client side workstation systems.. i googled the world around and couldnt find an answer on this .. plz help me..

My last job was at a hospital and we used PACS, but I didn't have any dealings with it (I was just a night shift AS/400 backup guy). I do know that our office rarely had any problems with it in the 3.5 years I was there, and usually when there was a problem it was with the doctor's ISP. I don't think you'll have any trouble with it at all, and I wouldn't worry about not having experience with it either. You'll probably learn all you need to know in the first week or so.

I'm a contractor for a primary care trust, i wouldnt worry to much about not knowing anything about it, most of the app's i've found that are used are fairly basic and all come with end support anyway. Be prepared for a million and one forms if you are sucessful just to get a account

You'll get training on any specialised application that you need to maintain/use. As other posters have said, none of them tend to be particularly complicated and you get support from the equipment manufacturer anyway. Any hardware issues would be solved by calling in an engineer.

Maybe you should invest in a lead lined cup however

Hiya d4nmf, was wondering i could do with some help from you since you work for the nhs, if you can please answer this for me ... the email i received for the interview doesnt state a lot on it except for the time and place... i wanted to know if this interview is broken down into sections for example- personal interview, telephone and then technical interview.. i am dreading myself and not sure what to expect...can you please tell me what the interviews are like in nhs.... that would be much appreciated mate..

ive worked for the nhs on two occasions (currently on my second stint) for my current role which is IT related (the first role wasnt) The interview process was a technical test followed by a panel interview 3 people on the panel, consisting of HR rep, Dept manager and Section manager(my boss)
Typically they will ask all the interviewees the same set of questions so from that pov its good.

Sorry - just checked the forum after a hetic weekend..

My interview was with the Acting Head of IT and a NPfIT (National Program for IT) senior project manager. It was pretty much like any technical interview, a few technical questions were thrown in and then a general chit-chat. However, because i am a contractor the interview maybe slightly different if you are going for a permanet role. Just do your generic interview prep's, mention strategic, encrypted hard drives and USB sticks and data protection lots and i'm sure you'll be fine.
