Network Bridge

I have read that in XP a network bridge can save you money on having to buy a real bridge to connect dissimilar topologies. I am right in saying a bridge is a piece of hardware (similar to a router) that used to be used for this purpose

An example of configuring Windows XP as a bridge is combining a wireless networkcard with an ethernet card. Note that a Windows XP bridge is very uncommon in a corporate network, but can be useful in small networks (SOHOs). Bridges as a hardware device are becoming less common.
