Beta notes for a beta exam. I'll work on cleaning up the formatting today.

I'll also add resources as more become available.

    Done.

I had the technet version already, but a download and printable version is nice. I found the DirectAccess Early Adopter's guide download and added it as well, for all your alternate reading location needs.

Someone posted the following PDF on a technet blog :

Right Click - Save As (that is my mirror though).

Trouble is I don't find the blog anymore - or basically I don't know on which one it was posted anymore.

This is an almost 300 page document :

    862_Capture.jpg

Windows Tools, Help & Guides | Seven, Vista, XP

Haven't had a chance to check it out myself yet so I cannot really say whether its any good or not.

Wow thanks! looks like just what I was after..

    [Rant]
I would comment on the PDF if my internet connection wasn't limited to 56k!!!! Taking forever to download. Stupid freaking NZ ISPs with their extremely low data caps...

Just read through it .. well .. kinda ..

This guide is REALLY basic .. so I wouldn't "hope" this will help for the exam :)

But if you want a nice overview about W7 - its good - just not very "technical" ... It shows how to install W7, how to add / remove programs, how to backup / restore, create user, Bitlocker, Homegroup etc.

So like I say - seems to be a nice overview of the basic features anyway ..

Yeah I see that.. Very light overview of W7, Good for a skim but wouldn't look to much more into it.

Windows 7 beta 1 Tips from TechNet Magazine

Including Burn a Disc Image from an ISO or IMG file in Windows 7 - it's about time!

They are 50% there. All we need now is the ability to natively mount ISO/IMG files without having to burn it.

I want virtual DVD drive! now! :D

I was reviewing some BitLocker info and I wanted to make sure I knew which version of 7 included BitLocker (Enterprise and Ultimate) and that led to wondering which version of 7 includes what features. The PC Magazine article has a good public walkthrough of the features. The Windows 7 SKU plan PowerPoint available on the MS Partner site is the best, but I don't know if you need to work for a partner to download it (I work for an MS partner).

A closer look at the Windows 7 SKUs - Windows 7 Team Blog - The Windows Blog
The Windows 7 Versions: What You Need to Know - News and Analysis by PC Magazine
    Windows 7 SKU Plan

To summarize, all the cool new features (execept for network location awareness printing) require Enterprise/Ultimate - BitLocker, AppLocker, BranchCache, DirectAccess and Boot from VHD.

thanks claymoore. this is all great stuff. its taking me a long time to go through it all. Yes, i am actually reading it all :) But this should really help me pass the exam. I am learning that Win7 is really pretty cool. Might actually be a cooler OS the Mac OSX. Actually, im pretty sure it is!

*update : Took the test this morning. Seemed really easy after reading all of claymore's links. Thanks alot for the links Claymoore! I know there are some questions that I got wrong, but even those questions were not hard, I just wasnt fully read up on those topics.

Thanks! Added your link and a link to the Windows 7 virtual labs (originally only Vista labs were available). But the best news is that automatic retrival of titles from the external links is now working. It's another Festivus miracle!

I would also like to add some recommendations on books or CBTs if anyone has any to recommend for Windows 7. I will add the Resource Kit of course, but I am also looking for exam-specific recommendations if anyone has used the official Training Kit or other exam prep materials.

I've taken out all of the "more info" Technet links from the MS Press book and created Firefox bookmarks out of them for 70-680. I could zip them up and link them here if it's ok with the mods?

Some of the same typos are mentoned in both articles but the second addresses more errors in the exercises.

EDIT: There are a lot of typo's in this book. There are also a lot of errors in some of the practice exercises.
