WGU Student Roll Call

meadITmeadIT Member Posts: 581 ■■■■□□□□□□
I'm going to be starting my first term at WGU on 10/1. How many others are currently enrolled?

I'm still waiting on my transcripts to be officially evaluated, but it looks like I'll have credit for these classes:
WFV1
MQTA
LCO1
LCE1
QLO1
TEV1
TTV1
WFV1
TNV1
ISC4
THA4
THC4
IOC4
TSV1
I27X
I290
I291

Which will leave these 15 classes (76 Units) for my BSIT:Networks Design & Management degree:
EWOB - Education Without Boundaries (1 Unit)
LCTA - Research, Writing and Oral Presentation (3)
TPV1 - Project Management (6)
WSV1 - Web Technologies (6)
RUA1 - Reasoning & Problem Solving in the Context of the Humanites Part I (6)
RUA2 - Reasoning & Problem Solving in the Context of the Humanites Part I (3)
SPV1 - Programming Fundamentals II (6)
LPO1 - Leadership and Professionalism (12)
WDV1 - Database I (6)
TWA1 - Technical Writing (4)
PFI1 - IT Portfolio (3)
CPW1 - IT Capstone Project (9)
I293 - Network Systems III (4)
I294 - Network Systems IV (3)
I297 - Network Infrastructure (4)

Any advice on any of these classes from past students?

I'm going to try and knock out all of this in two terms (1 year). We'll see how that goes. My plan is:
    First Term wrote:
    EWOB
    LCTA
    TPV1 - CompTIA Project+
    WSV1 - CIW v5 Site Designer
    WDV1 - CIW v5 Database Specialist
    I293 - 70-293
    I294 - 70-294
    I297 - 70-298
    SPV1 - Programming Fundamentals II (6)
    LPO1 - Leadership and Professionalism (12)
    TWA1 - Technical Writing (4)
    PFI1 - IT Portfolio (3)
    CPW1 - IT Capstone Project (9)
RUA1 - Reasoning & Problem Solving in the Context of the Humanites Part I (6)
RUA2 - Reasoning & Problem Solving in the Context of the Humanites Part I (3)

Although if I have time, I may move TWA1-Technical Writing to the first term to break up all the writing classes.

Wish I could give you advice on those classes but I have several of those to go. I'm in my second term there.

Would it not be worth posting something on your uni students forums? probably will have a better response anyway

I won't have access until my term officially starts. This is where I first heard of WGU, so I knew there were/are some students. Just wanted to get any info I could.

The beauty of WGU is that its competency based and self paced. All but two of the courses that I listed in the first term are completed by passing certification tests.

    CompTIA Project+
    CIW Site Designer
    CIW Database Specialist
    70-293
    70-294
    70-297

I have 3 years of Access/SQL database development, 1-2 years of web development, and finished 290, 291, 620, and Security+ in an average of 3 weeks each. I've been studying 293 for the past two weeks, so am just about ready for that, so 294, 297, Project+ (499/900 passing score icon_lol.gif ) and the writing course are all that I'll really need to devote a lot of time to.

I've got to do my readiness test or whatever they call it this evening..never got to talk to my enrollment counselor yet, we keep missing each other. Hopefully the financial aid gods will shine upon me! I'm also doing the network design & management track.

There's a pretty good WGU discussion board set up over at www.valvetrades.net/WGU/forums/ you may want to check out.

If you're taking the same classes he has listed above, you should consider ULM. It's half the price and has almost exactly the same classes.

Oh I considered them, but my evenings have been so erratic lately that I couldn't nail down a class schedule. Plus, I like my full time job (well other than the 'other duties as prescribed' bit) so no day classes for me.

For my MBA, yeah. Got my undergrad there as well.

First term here, Network Design & Management.

12/32 Program assessments done. 10 transferred in.

TPV1 is what I'm working on now. Does anyone have the hard copy of the Sybex book for this class they'd like to sell?

    Loving WGU so far.

I plan to do my MBA from there.

    That's awesome. Good luck!

I've got to call my enrollment counselor today when I get a chance and hammer out all the details.

    Best of luck!

I'll be starting the WGU BS in IT program on 10/1 also. I should have 86 remaining credits (if i can talk to someone this week regarding my math courses that weren't included in my transcript evaluation icon_rolleyes.gif ).

from my understanding, the rule of thumb is to carry about 12 units a term. are you seriously considering knocking out over 60 units in only two terms? recently, i was talking to another member on this board about WGU. he told me to begin with a fairly decent amount of work and then i could add a course or two before the term is over as long as i could finish everything. i recommend that instead of piling on the courses from the beginning. but then again, i don't have nearly the experience you have -- so it could be a breeze for you icon_cool.gif

Yeah, I won't add all of those right at the beginning. My plan is to start with 16 credits, get those done, then add 1-2 more classes, rinse, repeat, etc.

Be careful with your RCD's I lost an attempt at a test with those and had to pay for it myself.

I'm in my 2nd term and have completed 8 classes, however I'm scheduled for this term the infamous, dredgeful QLO1 exam. Has anyone taken it yet? If so, what would be your recommendation in passing? I've been studying every chance I can get, but I've heard it's very hard.

    Thanks,
    Judy

I am considering starting in September or October. My decisions are dependent on transfer of credits and what my financial situation will be. By this fall I will have my AAS in Computer Networking Technology :)

Does anyone here want to help with the Refer-A-Friend Program? I could use the $65 back. If so PM me please. :D

I originally applied early last year, but I haven't enrolled, yet. I just wrapped up all my student loan applications and should start 8/1.

I will be starting WGU either in August or September. I've chosen BS in IT -Network Admin but I don't know if I should go for the Design and Management concentration instead.

Wow, WGU seems very popular among members at TechExams. I find this very interesting. To those that are planning on attending WGU, are you currently working in IT, or are you trying to get in?

I've been in IT now for ~12 years. At the same job/company for almost 10 years now. I am doing WGU to fill in that empty section on my resume, and because I should have done sooner. I see it as a stepping stone towards their MBA in IT Management, which I will get started on as soon as I finish my undergrad in July 2010.
