VMWare Education Licence?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of a VMWare Education Licence?

I want to start learning Windows Server 2008 and as it's 64-BIT only I can't install this inside a Virtual PC install and currently don't have the money to invest in my own home server, so need use my home Windows 7 PC (high spec) for VM / Lab installs.

From my understanding VMWare Workstation will support 64-bit 2008 quests provided you are running a 64-bit host OS.

I want to get hold of an education (free) licence of some sort for VMWare as don't want to fork out $189 for it!

Obviously I have no plans to ever use this in a business / commercial environment. It would also help me learn more about VMWare at the same time.

If not then I might just have to bite the bullet and buy either the licence or my own home server and use something like Hyper-V or XenServer.

Yes but it isn't free. You still have to pay for it. You also have to provide proof that you're a student.

Only if your CPU has virtualization extensions like Intel VT or AMD-V and is actually enabled. If you don't then you can't run 64 bit guests even if you have a 64 bit OS and 64 bit virtualization package.

Use VMware Server 2 which does support 64 bit guests (assuming your CPU has the virtualization extensions) and is free.

Note that VMWare Server 2 will only run 64-bit guest OSes when itself is running on 64-bit hardware.
