Have an older laptop. Asus, which runs fine same one issue. The Wifi will not connect. Lets run down what I have done and what I know:
1) Runs fine save wifi (no errors in logs etc...)
2) Connects fine hardwired
3) This all seemed to start after a windows update months ago
4) Since then I have reinstalled windows, tried linux and still same issue
5) I see the mac address for my wifi card in my wifi router but I do not see an associated ip address
6) I have tried an external USB wifi card same exact thing as above. See the MAC address
in the wifi wire router, but no ip address gets assigned.
7) I have tried static and DHCP configurations, but no change

The laptop shows connected but I can't ping the default gateway
9) I can always ping the local host by ip and by 127.0.0.1
10) Countless other computers work on this router via wifi and hardwired...
I am 100% convinced the laptop is the issue... Just clueless as to what to change check next...
