Any of you participate in it?

I've been running Seti@home for about a month now.

Use your cycles for good. Try folding@home.
I'm not a complete idiot... some parts are missing.

I do grid.org because it gets me free gigs at EasyNews :)

I tried both of those, they stink. I know everyone says they only use unused cycles, but no matter what, every time I run them, my system either freezes, or slows down. Nothing else effects the computer like those @home proggies. Although I suppose Folding@home does do for a good cause, btu I'm still not doing it.

the grid.org one runs fine for me, I can play Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft with it running in the background and not experience any performance hits. Hell, Symantec AV eats more resources than grid's cycle grinder

I can do anything and still run Seti@home as well. It seems to scale really well.

    I am.

I've seen this argument go both ways.

Will running your CPU at 100% load like this wear it out any sooner? Even if it will, how does that time compare to the year and a half or so before processor speeds will double?

For example...I don't really care if my processor will wear out a year sooner due to the load I put on it. I don't consider individual pc parts to be much of a long term investment anyway.
