Phone Interview with Google

I had a phone interview with Google today for a Field Tech position. It was literally the most technical interview I have had. It was 40 minutes of non-stop technical question and the lady said I was quick (I talk fast). I was impressed with the scope of the questions, though I got hung up on a couple. I did have an answer for everyone. I'll let you guys know when I hear something!

What does a Google field tech do? Are you going to be driving around snagging photos for street view?

I wish! Basically run around the office and repair issues with users computers.

Just curious... are you required to sign the "evil Google NDA" for a phone interview like you are required for a formal interview?

As much as I love/hate Google, it would be a very interesting company to work for. Good luck!

I applied for that same position in Atlanta (only once though.) I never heard anything.

I went up for a Datacenter Hardware Ops Team manager position about 2 years ago. Three phone interviews, and a three day trip to the MtnView campus was my toll. We just couldn't come to a mutual agreement on a few issues. I had to pass. I have a few friends who work in the Atl and Sc offices. It's a neat place to be for sure, but to me, it seems like everyone there "drank the kool-aid" and were of the "hive-mind".... It was a bit unsettling to me.

I wasn't sent an NDA. I must have applied at least 8 times before finally hearing something. Do they send everyone up to Mountain View? Thanks guys!

Did you just keep applying for the same position or were they different postings?

I applied when it was a temp position and again when it was a full position. Plus I applied for the tech position in NYC and Mountain View. Plus one or two student positions for Product Managers.

On the plus side, just got a call passed the first interview onto the next!

All I can say is keep trying and apply for positions. I took the stance that I already don't work there, so what do I have to lose?

I app'd there and at youtube a few years back for a sysadmin position when I was still very new. The questions, then, were extremely difficult. The people are really cool about it, though.

One of the hiring managers told me "there are no wrong answers, it's all about how you deal with the question."

LOL BigTex! All I will say is it was technical, I don't know off hand how much I can say other then that.

I used to work with a lady who worked at the Google helpdesk. She said they had beds in some departments so people could sleep there in off hours. I'm not really sure I believe her though.

Finished my second phone interview and I think it went either really good or really bad, though I'm leaning toward the good. Hopefully will find out tomorrow!
