Thanks for the heads up... Right now both are full, I guess I will continue to try my luck. If nothing else, it will be good to see what some people here think of these exams.

If you're already a MCDST, you don't need to take the 685 (or the 680), there's an upgrade exam (similar to the 70-621 Vista exam) that takes the place of the 680 + 685

Just took the 71-686 and 71-685.

    71-685
Felt real easy if you are good with Vista and Server 2k8R2 domain setup.
About 40 questions on group policy, 10 questions on wireless, 4 on IP subnet calculations, about 15 on deployment and images, remainder on new technology items like Directaccess, Branchcache, VPN reconnect.

Took the 71-686, not as easy!
Heavy on deployment, via DISM, WDS & WAIK

    What to know for both:
    Branchcache, know the diference
Directaccess, know when to emplement, seem to be the correct answer
Applocker, know that you can base your deployment on either digital signed, publisher, version etc, just watch the video.
VPN reconnect, new to server2k8, means it keeps a connection, w/o user interaction
MSCCM, creates and deploys packages, at certain times of day too?
ACT, creates SHIM (still not sure what a shim is)
WAIK, what stage does activation occur at?
KMS vs MAK, what number of computers uses which technology, and if they are on diferent sites do you use a proxy?

I have compiled a directory of videos for download, you can see them here...
    Index of /windows7

    Hope this helps!!

Wont know for about 6 weeks, good luck every one!! :)

Canadasmarthome and Megadeth4168, thank you very much for the information on the exam!
It helps alot to at least know what to focus on; deployment!

For all other users, here is the MOC:

    How did you get this?

I thought only MCT can get this. Are you an MCT?

they always appear somewhere on the internet after some time.
they can be interesting, but I'd rather learn from technet then a MOC, because MOC's are actually designed for classromm training.
But, since there is not that much study material available on 71-686 I thought this might help some beta exam takers.

Thanks for all the heads up above!

I'm taking both exams tomorrow and have mainly been focussing on deployment scenarios . I'll have a good look at the new group policies tonight, and hope that'll be sufficient to get through the exams. Any other topics I'd need to review? DirectAccess and BranchCache look pretty straightforward.

I thought the 70-680 was a piece of cake, but these (especially the 71-686) look pretty tough.
    WIP: Considering cert path.. :-)
