PSTN Cloud

I have no clue how to configure a pstn cloud for my voice lab so any help is appreciated.

I think my post in that thread has a link to a post where I described my "PSTN" -- and that post has a link near the bottom to the PSTN configuration for the CCBootCamp Voice Workbook Labs.

You learn more by just using more Voice Routers to simulate the PSTN -- but that Adtran could be useful, if you knew what cards it had (FXS? T1? etc).

I agree w/Mike - By using Cisco routers in the PSTN cloud you'll learn a TON just getting everything to work

I updated the CCBootCamp Voice Workbook PSTN router initial configuration link in the old post that the post in the link was pointing to .

I'll check the PSTN configs in the zip files against the old one I had downloaded and see if there are any major differences. For some reason the PSTN configurations in the zip files don't seem as daunting as it did when I first found it.

I will pass on the adtran for now, I have two spare routers (2610 and a 2610xm ) maybe I can use them for the cloud. What interfaces or modules should I buy for these routers.

NO.

The MFT-T1 is a digital interface and has connected to another digital interface.

The FXO is an analog port -- and you'd connect to an FXS port (another analog port) in your PSTN cloud, a POTS simulator, or your home analog phone line.

Analog E&M interfaces can be configured with other E&M interfaces back-to-back.

I picked up a mc3810 with one dvm T1 and one t1e1 built in and also two vwic1 mft for my hq and branch router, Am I on the right track for a small cloud.

Yes -- you can hunt for a 2nd Voice router to handle another digital connection from your 2nd Branch Office and an FXS interface to toss in an analog phone which you can configure to ring as any phone number in the world (including your 911 calls).

I use a 2nd MC3810 and MFT-E1 in my "European Branch Office" to connect to the MFT-E1 in the MC3810 in my "PSTN Cloud" -- and then ignore any "transatlantic cable issues" and tariff issues -- and just configure the dial peers to make the "PSTN Magic" happen.

Well.... I just use the Ethernet and send the voip dial peers over that.

But you could get some more configuration practice by using the serial ports too and doing some QoS.

The big thing with building your "PSTN Cloud" is to use what you know to get it to react to your HQ and Branch Offices like the "real PSTN" would. As you learn more and do more with your HQ & Branches you may do more and configure more in your "PSTN Cloud."

I've seen it before -- and learned to look away while the boot loader does it's thing. Ignore the scary looking message.

Now if your MC3810 keeps power cycling and you notice that message many times (while sneaking a peek through your fingers), then you probably have newer big memory and an older ROM BIOS -- or some other serious issue that needs to be resolved.

it does not power cycles. tg for that.
