Does anyone know what a TAC Network Specialist would be? I am not even sure what TAC stands for.

    A guy in India who asks for information that has nothing to do with my problem.

    :P

    TAC is Cisco's technical support.

    My place of employment has a IBM Help Desk that is well, troubling to say the least. There was a time where my supervisor and I had to walk the Indian tech through how to do something we were not authorized to do ourselves. icon_lol.gif

    Seriously though, I saw a job posting for a TAC Network Specialist I and I am wondering what the usual job specifics are for a position like that. The job summary is vague:
    Responsible for proactive and reactive network monitoring in the TAC. Responsible for the timely and efficient resolution of network problems/faults and escalate as necessary. Perform basic network operations functions such as monitoring information on all sites and back haul, identify deterioration of components in the system, and dispatch

    You got that right!

    TAC = Technical Assistance Center

    I worked as a TAC engineer for a small company for a while. You pretty much assist customers. How in depth will really depend on the position or level of TAC you are on. I hate working with customers though so I didn't stick around in that job for long.

    Depends really. TAC is just a generic term for support basically. It can be anything from basic help desk to complex engineering support.

    IMO it sounds more like a NOC job than actual TAC job to me. TAC usually takes calls/escalations for customer issues. This job sounds more like a monitoring/first level troubleshooting deal to me which is usually branded as NOC Tech/Analyst. Titles always vary though so take them with a grain of salt.

    When I worked TAC for a support center it was 2nd level support so basiclly everybody who wanted higher level engineers than they kept on staff used us and paid us from 500 dollars to 100k a month for support on there network equipment. It was a big cost savings for the company as the max some paid you see is 120K a year for acess to around 9-10 CCNP/VP/SP to work on there problems instead of paying 9-10 guys around that same price.
