Microsoft Office Specialist - the cert?

Is this worth anything? What do you guys think of this cert and how much money do you think this cert will bring in with a couple years office experience?

Like office 2003 cert? Honestly I would have to say even though "the more you know, the better of you are" it has to be worthless as far as money goes, office should be a given knowledge in IT.

Agreed. Unless you want to become a Master Secretary, you probably don't need to know Office that indepth.

Will a Bachelor's in Business hurt a possible career in I.T? I'm going to school now for a Business degree after transferring over credits from my Associates in N.T degree.

I felt it was smarter at the time to jump ship than continue to struggle but I heard from a great deal of people who still do I.T with a Business Degree and I.T might come in handy in the future, who knows?

Yes, it most likely will help out in any situation. Though you may not get a job just because you have a degree, it definately won't hurt. I've seen people I work with hold management jobs even though they have engineering degrees. I think one of them even had a degree in Geology. Check into a degree in Management Information Systems. It's still a Business degree, but it's a concentration in IT.

I've got a BS in Chemistry - do you think that makes me less valuable? Heck no.

Every IT employer I've had has looked favorably on it. You'll be fine with a Business degree.

Thanks, that also helps me out too. I'm majoring in Management and the college I'm going to has an excellent program. Our undergraduate in Management is ranked 25th in the nation, but I thought that going for management yet trying to get in network engineering might hinder me.

Are you mad man?!! In my opinion -

1. Business
2. Engineering
3. Mathematics
4. Other Science

Are probably the best degrees (other than BS Computer Science) going into the IT field. Business because you'll be working at a business and it helps business if you know how the business works unless your boss tells you to mind your business, then you might have to give him the buisiness.
