Can somebody explain zero subnetting to me?

Are the useable zero subnets any number between 0 the # before the first subnet (like 0-31)????

Well, I assume you already read the book.
Here is an example for classA.
For 10.x.x.x/16, zero subnet: 10.0.0.0-10.0.255.255
For 10.x.x.x/24, zero subnet: 10.0.0.0-10.0.0.255

The point is to look at the mask and make the first subnet starting from 10.0.0.0 to be the zero subnet.

It would be 1-30 0 being network 31 being broadcast, 32 being the next subnet if you were working in a 32 block size.

Beef does an excellent job of explaining it. Look at the mask which tells you which octect to concentrate as well as what the zero subnet should be.

So normally, subnet 0 and the Broadcast subnet would normally not be useable...in zero subnetting...those 2 throwaway subnets become useable.
