According to an email I received last week from the Microsoft Regional Support Center the second shot offer starts back tomorrow:

We would like to inform you that there is no discount offer as of now however second Shot offer has been made available again for the candidates. This means that if they sign up for the Second Shot offer and do not pass a certification exam on their first try, they have a free, second chance to pass it. This campaign starts on Jan 13th till June 30th 2010.

    Hope that helps!

That's what I am doing also. I am going to take the 70-290 this month and hopefully the 70-291 in February to upgrade from MCSA:2000 to MCSA:2003.

As for the confirmation this came directly from Microsoft's Regional Service Center which is in charge of support for certifications and learning. I guess you can email MCPhelp@microsoft.com for a confirmation.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for this to come back around. Time to brush up on 70-290.

I just called my Regional Service Center literally minutes ago, and they said yes it starts again on the 13th (tomorrow) of this month. Yoohoo! Guess I'll be scheduling my next exam a little sooner than expected :)

I'm sure everyone should know, but don't forget to register for the offer ahead of time BEFORE scheduling your exam.

Thanks for the update. I just wish Cisco did a 2nd shot offer.

I reckon you should get 2 goes at any exam. There's nothing like blowing AU$150-180 on a failed exam due to lack of familiarity with a new format.

I reckon the cheaters out there wouldn't use **** so much if these exams were cheaper. Maybe. Maybe not.

Any news on this offer? I tried to find it online but there is nothing listed on either Prometric or Microsoft.

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/offers/Career.aspx?#certification

How do you register for this offer?

Update: Prometric have updated their website with the offer:

I signed up for this on prometric's website and received a voucher for my next 2 MS tests to complete my MCSE. So it is working... I haven't actually signed up for the tests yet.

    yay second shot is back!

I purchased a voucher back in Nov, will this be covered under the second shot? Or is this only for vouchers posted after the second shot system goes into effect.

Good news! Does this apply once per person or just once per subject? If I knuckle down, I'd hope to be able to get the 640, 646 and the 682 upgrade exam by summer :D

Well, as a "cert newbie" I like this offer (and signed-up about 1 minute ago).

Taking tests are hard enough; having that little thought in your head about failing a $120 exam and having to re-take/re-pay just adds that much more pressure.

I don't "plan" on failing any, but this is what I call "cheap" insurance! :)

I'm unemployed and plan on getting EA before June. This is nice for me; getting my 2 college degrees in programming, I had to work a part-time job 30 hours a week; it was a struggle. Now, I have no problems spending 8 to 10 hours a day on the certs :)

Excellent, I'm really glad they brought this back. I'm planning on running the gauntlet of about five MS exams this year, so it's nice to have some insurance in case I should fail one. . . or three. icon_lol.gif

See below from the FAQ on the Microsoft Learning Career Portal. Looks like you get a second shot each time you purchase an exam.

How many exams can I take with the offer?
The Second Shot offer provides you with one free retake for each paid exam that you do not pass on the first try.

the second shot offer sounds wonderful on my windows 2008 upgrade 70-649...

Just had a timeslot open for Friday so I just scheduled my 294 for this Friday with the second shot voucher.... Then this coming Wednesday I will be taking the VCP410 with second shot as well...

I'm pushing myself for a reason! Non stop studying! Plus, I've studied for the 294 tons of times before, I just failed because the reading comprehension of the test is tough for me.

SNADAM IF YOU ARE READING, I WILL PASS MY 294 BEFORE YOU!

Second Shot got me through my MCITP EA in less than 2 months. I kept running right through them with 2 weeks prep time because if i failed, I would be able to take it over again, and then I would take it slower. I never failed one, so I finished pretty quickly lol.

Yes there is no second shot for that voucher.

And to be specific since it comes up every time the 2nd shot offer is on:
You cannot combine second shot with a voucher (since both are "vouchers" and Prometric only allows you to use a single voucher number when booking an exam). So don't buy a prepaid voucher and expect to get a second shot with it...

Same thing applies if you use a discount code from one of the MS training books
    e.g. the 15% off deals

i.e. either 15% off or Second Shot (but not both) icon_sad.gif

oh so that's the catch, figures... I still think most would rather have a free second shot to back them up than the little 15% off with no back up :/.
