Starting down the Juniper track

Guys,

Thinking about starting do the juniper track...

Is there any good study guides for the routing track (JNCIA)/?

Also I am going to buy one of these:


Juniper Networks J2300-1s2fel-s-ac-uk Router

or

Juniper J2300 Router J2300-2t1-ac Junos 9.0r3.6 J-230




Which would be better?



In comparison to cisco are these much harder tests? I don't want specifics, but are there lab type questions on these tests?

I do work with Juniper at my current job, but I do mostly cisco so I am not a total beginner.


Also would the router I mentioned above be enough to move onto the next level if I was motivated?

    Well for the enterprise track there is the fasttrack portal available on juniper website. It has got all the study requirements required to pass the exam. If you are looking at the SP segment do a search for JNCIA pdf on the web.. There is a free downloadable pdf available. It's the best resource to start of with...

    Not commenting on the routers now.. but for JNCIA you should be good.. for the next levels/tracks its good to get a combination of Olives and real routers to save on cost... but yeah you need more of them...

    Cisco is harder in my opinion... I probably cannot go into the specifics of the other part of your question...CCNA is definitely harder than the JNCIA..

    I am definately not asking for **** info... Just the high level test format. It is widely known that it is mult choice, drag drop and some lab... Just wondering if Juniper follow the same pattern.


    Please if it seemed that I was asking for more information (cheating) I was most certainly not. JUst wanted to be clear.

    No no.. I didn't mean or refer to cheating.. I was only saying NDA.. I thought I probably shouldn't discuss anything that comes inside the exam... Well if you do know its multiple choice/drop down/lab.. then its fair to assume that it would be in the exam... I honestly did not even think about that.. I was only thinking that I shouldn't cross the NDA...

    Easier than Cisco, because the tests are more granular at the JxxxA level, routers and switches are separate exams. However there are slightly more psychometric games. You could have three close to correct answers possibly relying on a grasp of multiple topics. That is a question is not always as simple as it looks because of the split task nature of Juniper hardware/software.

    Multiple choice multiple answer yes, drag and drop maybe. hot spot maybe, sims not likely. Junos doesn't really lend it self to them although I suppose they could come up with some just to say they have them. It is different and will test how much of a logical thought process you have. Can't really say more, that pesky NDA you know.

    Some say it helps if you have a programming background. I can't really say because I have both an extensive programming and hardware background and some things still trip me up after studying Juniper off an on for 18 months. You should not have to worry about that until you start studying for specialist and professional/expert levels. As Hoogen said JNCIA should be fairly easy when compared to Cisco. The fast track will supply you with everything that you need for free. Most love Juniper a few do not but you can't please every one.
