Hi,

Just curious if anyone knows how many people have passed the security+ 2008 exam so far?

Thanks.

I've hunted for this information a few times. Only CompTIA would have that information and they don't seem to be releasing it.

CompTIA did send out press releases in August 2008 saying that the number of Security+ certifications exceeded 50,000. BUt that number wasn't for the 2008 exam.

Security+ is a certification dealing with computer security topics such as cryptography and access control. It was developed in 2002 to address the rise of security issues. Currently and according to CompTIA, there are more than 45,000 people around the world who have earned this certification. It is recommended that candidates have two years of security‐related work experience (although not a requirement) and pass the 100 question multiple choice exam. The Security+ exam can be applied as an elective to the MCSA: Security and the MCSE: Security specializations from Microsoft.

The exam is 90 minutes in duration and consists of 100 questions with a passing score of 764 on a scale of 100-900 for SY0-101: Security+ (2002/2007 Edition). An update of exam SY0-201 was released in October 2008 incorporating new objectives and has a passing score of 750 on a scale of 100-900.

I was curious why there was a difference between the 45,000 quoted by Wikipedia and 50,000 quoted by so many sources. (A Google search on "security+ 50,000" shows several links to others that reported on CompTIA's press release. CompTIA's original press release is no longer on their site.)

I-fan thanks for posting the link for your source. Refererence 4 was listed as the source for Security+ and it was retrieved February 10, 2008. Between then and August 2008 they exceeded 50,000. That's 5,000 in six months.

If they kept the same pace, that would only be 65,000 now. I would actually think the number is higher, but I'm just guessing.
