GLBP help.

Ok I am missing some thing here.

Router(config-if)# glbp 10 weighting 110 lower 95 upper 105

what exactly do these different values mean?

I understand the weighting system in terms of load balancing packets. And how tracking objects can affect it.

This is how I under stand it.

The first value is the starting weight?

then if it falls below 95 it stops being an AVF, and does not start again until it raises above 105?

And depending on the actual weight the group has determines the amount of the traffic it deals with?

more to the point why am i seeing this ?? to mme it looks each router is seeing a different AVF as acctive?

Q1. yes.

And to your second question, remember that each AVF has an associated virtual mac address. The AVG hands them out to hosts on a round-robin basis and each router with glbp configured is going to forward traffic received on its virtual mac address. So when you look at your show commands, you will see that for each AVF, one router will be Active and the others will be Listen. If you have 3 glbp routers, on R1, AVF1 might be active, but on R2 and R3, they would be listen, because only one router is forwarding traffic received on the segment by that virtual mac address at a time. If the Active router goes down, the ones that are listening notice and one of them takes over forwarding so that there's no interuption. If you have 3 routers on a segment doing glbp, you'll have 3 AVFs, 3 virtual mac addresses, and one active router for each avf.

Oh course.. dumb me!!! I was reading it wrong..

I forgot that not only the AVG's, but the AVF's have a redundant router standing by..
