I think that's a very good combination. I haven't read Tcat's guide myself, but it comes highly recommended from people who did. The syngress book is one of the better Sec+ study guides available. Note that I haven't covered all the exam objectives yet in the TechNotes.

Not just the practice questions in Tcat's PDF come highly recommended.

I used the syngress book....and I have reviewed the technotes....I would say that you should be in good shape.
