Test Preparation - Part II

TO: All Guru in the forum,

Folks...do me a favor. Tell me if I'm going to right direction.
As told you, I've small practical knowledge on H/ware and S/ware. I've been studying Meyers All In One Book. But what I'm NOT doing ... Memorizing the tables and charts. Coz it has almost 1200 pages. I'm planing to remember those when I start my practice exams..I believe, practice exam will help me to remember those charts n tables. I've gathered following free practice exams...

MY time frame : March 28th - April 20th = Complete studying the book (Only H/ware part)
April 20th - April 28/29th = Practice Exams
April 30th = Final Exam (Hardware part only)
Similar for OS for the next month of May

Plz tell me I'm NOT doing somehting stupid. There are so many details info..I thought I might mess up remembering...So decided to PRACTICE LEARNing from PRACTICE EXAMS.

For the H/W exam learn the following off: IRQ's and I/O address's. Cabling specs, CPU types , Motherboard standards. I found just writing the stuff out over and over till you can write it from memory is the best way. Practice exams are great to do but if you go in knowing the standards you will be in a better position I think.

There is not a lot to memorize if you are familiar with working with these items. Get yourself a entry-level sales/board swapper job and become familar with *ALL THOSE CHARTS*. You'll soon realize the items that are there for reference vs. the items you will use during the day.

Learning from Pracitice Exams IS NOT the way to go, and your certification will not be valued by your peers.

I am warning you now - so you don't find out later.

Texts such as Mike Meyers are for concise refernce/study to prepare for an examination. They are for review of material you may not work with frequently and also allow one to carry their study material arround in a nice heavy book.

Follow the Comptia Objectives -search the web, review the book and get hands-on REAL practice.

Practice questions are for AFTER you UNDERSTAND the material not before.

If you have any friends who upgrade their computers, buy parts online, or simply mess with anything of that sort, I say just go ahead and join them. Nothing helped me with my A+ studies more than 7 - 8 years of personal troubleshooting, building, and upgrading my own computers.
