2520 Won't Come Out of Router(boot) Mode

No matter what I change in the config-register it comes up as router(boot). It also won't let me do a copy tftp flash. It only allows copy flhlog.

You actually got flash installed? If so, is it formatted and partitioned?

maybe not. I'll have to check when I am at the router tomorrow. I doubt these things have ever been opened up, but I'll check anyway.

What happens when you do show flash?

Do "show flash all" and paste the output.

show file systems then try show (filesystem) or sometimes dir (filesystem) I have a feeling you have a 'boot' image of ios as the first image on flash... hence why it is booting into it everytime.... you should still be able to enter user priv mode via 'enable' at the boot prompt...

The old 2500s don't work like that. If you want to upgrade IOS in flash then you have to boot into the RXBOOT version of IOS which is permanently burnt into a ROM on the motherboard first.

In this case, it doesn't appear that the 2520 has any flash at all so it is always booting into RXBOOT.

You have flashed my memory back to reading about this before though.... I can't remember if some of the old SUPs worked on this basis as well... I'm thinkin yes...

No flash. Stupid mistake. That is what you get for assuming. I inherited the router and didn't even think that someone could have had their hands in it. All is running good now. I stole some flash out of another router which had 16MB in it.

GREAT!

My other 2520 is now doing the same thing (yes it has flash installed). I reset the config-register to 0x2142, reloaded and it came up fine. Copied the config from my other 2520 over, changed the config-register back, did a "wr," and reloaded. When it came back up it was still in ROMMON. It is saying:

%SYS-4-CONFIG_NEWER: Configurations from version 12.1 may not be correctly understood.

The power went out in my office today and the whole lab rack went down. Could the flash have gotten corrupted?
