Please tell us a bit about how you prepared for the exam, what study material you used, etc.etc, so others can benifit from your experience.

I prepared via self study

i used:

Security+ for dummies (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!)
Security+ Guide to network security (CISCO LEARNING INST) (pretty good)
Mike myers passport security+ (not recommended)
tech exams material (recommended especially for the attacks and email sections)

I also used CBT Nuggets CD1 and CD2 which i watched once and took notes then every night i setup media player to play through the CDs while i slept

I also used the following practice exams:
Mike myers passport CD
Security+ CD
techexams practice tests
mcmcse practice tests

I basically spent a month studying 1-3 hours a day every day and it definately paid off

Whatz anyones opinion on the use of Sybex study guides for the security + exam?

princess....i would personally go for the sec+4dummies/technotes combo.... those two taught me much more than i needed to know even in a very easy to understand way...i personally feel that sybex sometimes...over complicates their books...in my opinion

Surprised to hear Sec+ for Dummies?! Must say I used DOS for Dummies a few hundred years ago and found it excellent at that time. I'll pass this on to others taking Sec+

On the Sybex book, I was disappointed in it (Version 1), but paid $5 in a Book Bin so couldn't complain. ExamCram2 worked well for me.

yea the CBT nuggets were not bad at all, however, most of the time i just slept through them and learned in my sleep
