I believe for the CISSP you need to be referred by an IT professional and have at least 2 years working in the field.

A master's Degree in Information Security + 3 years experience is also acceptable. Note that the experience has to be info sec related. These requirements are for the certification, not for the exam. If you pass the CISSP exam without having the proper experience, you'll become an 'ISC2 Associate' and can become CISSP certified when you get to 4 years experience (without having to pass and pay for the exam again).
