When creating a group, I can't select universal scope and security type for the radio buttons.

Does anybody know how to enable universal for security group type?

The default domain functional level is 2000 mix. at that level you cannot create universal groups. You would need to raise it to 2000 native or 2003 domain functional level. Open up Active Directory, right click on your domain then click on "Raise Domain Functional Level". Hope that helps.

Check out the group scopes section here for some more info:

You are working in a mix mode environment, change to permission compatible with 2003 and 2000 servers - NATIVE mode.
    What next?

Is it possible to switch back to the mix mode environment once I switch to the native mode?

Yes, Reinstall Server 2003, that should get you back to mix mode. icon_lol.gif

NO NO NO NO unless you have to.
You can build another server and do it as mixed mode, move roles, then reformat and reinstall win2003 on the primary server.
