As far as I know this is a brand new IT Scholarship.

If I'm reading it right, it doesn't seem to be of much value to those of us with no college credits to transfer.
The beginning of knowledge is understanding how little you actually know.

Yes, it appears to be aimed at those with a two-year degree and some IT certifications.

    I just applied.

I am not holding my breath....I answered the 4 essays I thought well. But let's see if I get a call from the Scholarship team next week.

It's great that I have the two certs....yay! But my luck, I probably "make too much." icon_sad.gif

Nope... while "the best candidates will be able to demonstrate that they have obtained the equivalent of 2 years of completed college experience", I don't have a two year degree and I transferred more than 15 CUs.

The only thing I need is the last thing, interview with scholarship counselor.
    Who the Scholarship is for

    This scholarship is for:
    • IT professionals who possess at least two current IT certifications and want to earn a bachelor’s degree.
    Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:
    • Complete an application for admission.
    • Submit official transcripts of all prior college work and be able to transfer at least 15 competency units (CUs). (The best candidates will be able to demonstrate that they have obtained the equivalent of 2 years of completed college experience.)
    • Submit proof of having earned at least two current IT certifications. See acceptable IT certifications.
    • Be officially admitted to WGU.
    • Interview with a WGU Scholarship Counselor prior to award decision.

I need to find some scholarship money for my Masters degree. I am getting out of the Guard in a couple of months. Well I don't "need" money for school but would be great if I could secure some funding to lessen the burden.

As I set out to do in this thread earlier, I applied for it having met the qualifications. I received a call about 1 week ago for the Interview. I guess over a week went by, I got $600 every 6 months for 5 terms. ($3K).

"The scholarship Committee at WGU reviewed your application and has selected you to receive an Information Technology Professionals Scholarship. This scholarship is for the following amount and terms:

    Amount per term: $600
    Maximum number of terms: 5
    Maximum total value: $3,000"

I encourage all of you to apply if you haven't done so. If you have the CUs earned at WGU or elsewhere, plus two certs, (and I believe the CIW stuff will count...), then definitely apply!

    (Thank God I did A+ and Network+ after all....lmao!!)

Thank you and probably less....by my personal calculations, it's looking like 3, 4 tops!

Veritas, thank you so much for posting that, btw!

    Congrats Erpadmin!
No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

Thanks brother! :) The good news is now I really can afford that server and components I just bought! I have to wait a couple of days for it to show up in the Financial Aid tab, but then it's all good!

Thank you to all and as I said, I encourage you all to apply if you have an IT background, no matter how small you think it is....let the Scholarship board decide!

Don't know if this is something you are looking for or not. I can't tell whether or not you can do civilian DoD or have to stay active military.

Thanks Mike. $600 every 6 months definitely will help my wallet. Especially since I just dropped some money on building a lab. This has definitely been a good month. :)

Trust me...it pays off at the end....

It doesn't have to be your whole life story...just make your essays readable and under the required limit. MS Word [word count] is your friend, in that regard.

From what you're saying it sounds like the scholarship is still available, but they don't have it on the website for some reason. I guess I'll keep the link in my sig until I hear otherwise.

Yea, when my EC emailed me the available scholarships, he sent it as a word doc and it was dated 11.1.10.

I didn't ask directly with the scholarship people, I just asked how I can apply and they directed me to the site to click on the scholarship and hit apply. Yea I didn't see it as one of the choices so I just clicked on any of them and applied that way since it brings you to a generic site to login and fill out a long app so I think any of the scholarships brings you to the same site.
